Jan 08, 2013
The Lady Greyhounds struggled in the second quarter in a District 10, Region 2-AA road loss to Mercer.
Wilmington (1-2, 3-8) was outscored 15-8 in the pivotal period after the teams were deadlocked at 10 after one stanza.
“I thought that we actually played fairly well defensively,” Lady Greyhounds coach Brandy Sanford said. “We were defending well inside, but we gave up a couple of outside shots, especially in the second quarter.
“Mercer has a nice team. They really hustle. I thought we did really decent keeping up with them, though.”
Carly Christofferson netted a team-high 11 points for Wilmington and Tessa Sikora followed with a team-best 10 rebounds to go with her eight points.
“Tessa always comes and works hard,” Sanford said. “She always does it kind of quietly. She’s very consistent with the rebounding.”
Lexie Arkwright posted a game-high 14 points for the Lady Mustangs (2-0, 7-3).
