A well-managed first half allowed Union to hold off Northgate 42-26.
The Lady Scots held a 26-9 advantage at the half. Union kept the visiting Lady Flames to single digits in three of the four quarters.
“We shot the ball and ran the offense the way we wanted to in the first half,” Union coach Brian Fadden said.
“In the third quarter there was a five-minute stretch when we didn’t play good defense.”
Twin sisters Marissa and Miranda Heaney scored 17 and 10 points, respectively.
Tiara Scott had eight points for Northgate.
The tournament resumes today with Union and Mercer facing off at 2 p.m., followed by Shenango and Northgate at 4 p.m. The host Lady Warriors meet Wilmington at 6.
