Tough loss for Lady ’Hounds
Sharpsville (50) Vs. Wilmington (35)
Feb 07, 2012
McKenzie Popatak poured in a game-high 37 points to lift Sharpsville to a District 10, Region 2-AA road win over Wilmington.
Popatak scored 27 of her points in the second half, including all but two of the Blue Darlings’ points of the half.
“It was mostly done inside for Popatak,” Lady Greyhounds coach Brandy Sanford said. “They feed her the ball a lot.
“We weren’t getting any help on the defense inside on her. We just fell apart defensively in the second half.”
Alanna Elliott paced Wilmington (5-5, 11-9) with 10 markers.
The loss is damaging to the Lady Greyhounds’ playoff hopes. They have just two games left in region play, both at home — against Reynolds on Monday and Greenville on Feb. 16.
Wilmington is in fourth place, chasing third-place Sharpsville (7-2, 13-6). Greenville (9-1, 15-3) leads the region and Sharon (7-2, 13-6) is tied for second with the Blue Darlings.
“This one hurts for sure,” Sanford said.
