Ambridge tops Ellwood
Ambridge (49) Vs. Ellwood City (40)
Feb 07, 2012
Ellwood City Lincoln’s season and home finale slowly slipped away in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Wolverines used a strong third quarter to take a 32-29 lead into the final period, but that’s when Ambridge took over this Section 2-AAA contest.
Led by Katie Fischer’s team-high 26 points, the Lady Bridgers outscored Ellwood City, 20-8, in the last quarter. Fischer netted 10 points in the fourth and was 5 of 6 from the free-throw line in the final minutes to seal the victory.
“It was a game we should have won,” Lady Wolverines coach Jolene Servick said. “It was close the whole time. We just couldn’t finish the game. We were up five or seven in the third quarter and we lost it from there. We had to keep fouling (Fischer) because she was bringing the ball up, and to her credit, she made her foul shots. That’s what great players do, and she’s certainly a great player.”
Asia Borders scored a team-best 15 points and also corralled six rebounds. Kara Sainato hit all four 3-pointers for Ellwood City (0-12, 6-16) in a 12-point effort. Angela McCowin grabbed nine rebounds and scored six points.
