‘Tired’ Shenango boys lose
New Brighton (56) Vs. Shenango (45)
Feb 02, 2012
Fatigue caught up to the Wildcats in a nonsection road game at New Brighton.
Shenango, which was coming off a key Section 2-AA victory over Riverside on Tuesday, couldn’t keep up with New Brighton. The Lions led 29-23 at halftime and pushed their advantage to 12 after three quarters.
“We didn’t come ready to play,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “We looked tired tonight. Our jump shots were coming up short, and our foul shots were hitting the front of the rim, and that’s a sign that our legs were tired. We had some open looks, we just couldn’t knock them down. (Tuesday) was an emotional night for us, physically and mentally, and I think we had a bit of a letdown tonight.”
Jeff Williams paced the Wildcats (12-7) with a game-high 16 points. Jordan O’Hara added 13. Shenango, second in the section, goes back to conference play with another significant game against third-place Neshannock tomorrow.
“We have a big one on Friday against Neshannock,” McQuiston said. “We need to have a good practice tomorrow and be ready to play.”
New Brighton’s Jaelin Yellock scored a team-best 15, while Torian Berry netted 14.
