Summit defeats Mohawk
Summit Academy (66) Vs. Mohawk (50)
Feb 01, 2012
The second quarter cost Mohawk dearly in a Section 2-AA road loss.
Summit Academy led by two after the first period, but went off in the second, outscoring the Warriors, 21-6.
“The first quarter was close,” Mohawk coach Rob Fadden said. “We were competitive in the first. The second quarter, they just pretty much dominated us on the boards.
“We were playing a zone, trying to pack it in a little bit, but we still weren’t getting bodies on people, and we didn’t do a good job containing the drive either.”
Summit Academy (9-1, 13-4) only outscored the Warriors by one in the other three quarters. Mohawk (4-5, 9-9) fell into fifth place in the section with the loss. A win would have put the Warriors in a tie with Riverside and Neshannock for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Mohawk plays Riverside at home on Friday in a pivotal game.
“They all are big the rest of the way,” Fadden said.
Lucas Grim paced Mohawk with 18 points. The Knights’ Omar Johnson led all scorers with 20 points. Rakim Reedy added 18, and two others also scored in double figures.
