Alanna Elliott continues to shine for the Wilmington High girls basketball team.
Elliott netted a career-high 27 points to lift the Lady Greyhounds to a 41-29 District 10, Region 2-AA home win over Lakeview on Saturday.
A 5-foot-9 sophomore guard, Elliott surpassed 20 points for the second game in a row. She tallied 21 markers on Wednesday in a win over Shenango.
“She played well,” Wilmington coach Brandy Sanford said of Elliott. “She is finally just shooting the ball. She’ll get worried if she misses one and pass up shots.
“We told her to just shoot it. She has a good form on her shot.”
Elliott tossed in 15 of her points in the first half as the Lady Greyhounds built a 23-9 advantage. She netted 10 more in the fourth quarter.
“It’s just a matter of building her mental confidence,” Sanford said. “She’s getting much better.
“Alanna was good last year as a freshman. We believe in her play.”
Wilmington (4-4 region, 9-8 overall) takes over sole possession of fourth place in the region with the win to remain in playoff contention.
“It’s important to get to .500 (in the region),” Sanford said. “We need to win the ones that we feel we can win.
“We’d like to stay at least at .500 to have a shot at the playoffs.”
Casey Stringer paced the Lady Sailors (0-9, 1-14) with nine points.
