Hiers sparks Lady ’Hounds
Wilmington (65) Vs. Shenango (39)

Mackenzie Hiers sparked a big fourth quarter to help Wilmington pull away in a nonconference clash with Shenango.
Hiers scored 10 of her 17 in the fourth, and the Lady Greyhounds outscored Shenango, 25-7, in the final frame to claim a home victory.
Wilmington coach Brandy Sanford said an alteration to the defense, along with Hiers’ energy, sparked the run.
“We’ve been trying to work on the press (defense),” she said. “And we actually pulled it off and went man to man, and for whatever reason, we were able to move our feet better with that. We created quite a few turnovers and we were able to convert those into points.
“(Hiers) was the one getting the steals and taking them down to the other end,” she added. “She was 3 for 3 from the line and hit two traditional three-point plays (in the fourth).”
Hiers also corralled 10 rebounds to record a double-double. Cassie Marett did as well, scoring 11 points and grabbing a team-high 11 boards. Alanna Elliott led all scorers with 21.
Amanda Herb paced the Lady Wildcats with 16.
