The streak came to an end last night.
After winning seven consecutive games to start the season, the New Castle High girls basketball team was handed its first loss in a 79-60 defeat to Peters Township in the opening round of the Ambridge Christmas Tournament.
The Lady Indians took full advantage of a first-quarter run, outscoring the Lady ’Canes 24-11 en route to a 47-33 lead at the half.
Emily Correal turned in a 37-point performance for Peters Township (8-2). Laura Hammell followed with 26 points.
New Castle, which committed 22 turnovers, shot 20 of 53 from the field. The Lady ’Canes (7-1) were outrebounded, 37-22.
Abby Allen led New Castle with 18 points. Tasia Wise followed with 17 markers and Shelby Rodgers added 12. Rodgers had three 3-pointers.
The Lady ’Canes play Ambridge in the consolation game at 6:15 p.m. today.
