Mohawk boys beat Laurel
Mohawk (45) Vs. Laurel (34)
Jan 25, 2012
One bad quarter proved costly again for Laurel in a Section 2-AA home loss to Mohawk.

The Warriors (3-4, 8-8) outscored the host Spartans (0-8. 1-14), 16-4, in the third quarter to collect the victory.

“We always have a quarter where we don’t score,” Laurel coach Mike Tinstman said “That was the difference in the game, our struggles in the third quarter.

“We didn’t respond well in the third quarter and the credit goes to Mohawk.”

First-year Warriors coach Rob Fadden noted the importance of the third-quarter explosion.

“We were sloppy and turned the ball over a lot in the first half,” he said. “We were much more disciplined in the second half.”

Tim Glass tossed in 13 points for Mohawk and Lucas Grim was next with 11 markers. Glass handed out three assists as well.

Richard Jones and Josh Dando recorded seven points each for Laurel. Jones distributed three assists, while Connor Melichar snared a game-high seven rebounds.

The Spartans were just 5 of 15 at the foul line.

Mohawk gained another positive step into playoff contention with the win, coupled with a loss by Neshannock — 90-82 to Summit Academy. The Lancers (4-4, 8-7) are holding the fourth and final playoff spot by a game over the Warriors.

“Every win at this point is huge,” Fadden said. “This gives us another day to have meaning.

“From top to bottom, it’s a pretty competitive section.”
