Jan 23, 2012
Markel Peace stepped up when the Union High boys basketball team needed him the most.
Peace netted 16 of his game-high 18 points in the second half to lead the Scotties to a 51-35 nonsection home win over Mohawk on Saturday.
Peace, a 6-foot-2 junior forward, pulled down seven rebounds as well. He recorded a team-high 71 points in three games last week for Union, which went 2-1 in that stretch.
“Markel is really coming around,” Scotties coach Dave Smialowski said. “We’re getting good shots and playing good basketball right now as a team, too.”
Benjamin Young was next with 11 points to go along with a team-best four assists for Union. Young posted nine of his markers in the second half.
Tre Major snared seven boards for the winners.
The Scotties (8-7) trailed 17-16 at the half before turning things around in the second half.
“It was a nice win,” Smialowski said. “I don’t know if our legs were there early on.
“Then our legs kicked in. We got a little rejuvenated and we had a good second half.”
Tim Glass led the Warriors (7-8) with 12 points.
