Matt Bowen’s absence was pivotal in Wilmington’s 38-31 District 10, Region 2-AA road loss to Lakeview.
Bowen missed his second straight game with an illness. He leads the Greyhounds in scoring at 13.5 points a game.
“Without having Matt, they really sank in defensively, and it forced us to take outside shots,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “We had good looks.
“Lakeview is a really sound defensive team. We’re going to have to make those shots.”
Josh Tekac paced Wilmington with 14 points, while pulling down five rebounds. Anthony Derrick led the Greyhounds in rebounding with six.
Wilmington cut the deficit between three and six points in the last couple of minutes, but the Sailors put the game away at the foul line. Lakeview was 6 of 14 from the stripe for the game, including 6 of 12 in the final period.
“We tried to extend the game by fouling, but they hit enough of their foul shots,” Jeckavitch said.
Casey Greggs registered a game-high 17 points for Lakeview.
