Mistakes hurt Lady Lancers
New Brighton (49) Vs. Neshannock (39)
Jan 20, 2012
It wasn’t just the turnovers Neshannock committed, it was the timing of them.
The host Lady Lancers turned the ball over 34 times in the Section 2-AA loss, and New Brighton, which snapped a five-game losing skid, made sure they paid for it.
“We had 34 turnovers, eight of which were directly related to a fastbreak basket,” Lady Lancers coach Luann Grybowski said. “That’s 16 points right off the turnovers. Their pressure and a little bit of athleticism and quickness hurt us. And we got absolutely demolished on the boards.”
The Lady Lions (3-4, 7-6) held a 45-20 rebounding advantage in the game and outscored Neshannock, 26-12, in the first half, when Kaitlyn Hopkins scored nine of her game-high 15.
Neshannock shot 13 of 39 from the field and 1 of 14 from 3-point land.
Alexandra Fischer paced the Lady Lancers (2-4, 6-9) with 14 points and five rebounds.
