Dec 31, 2011
South Side Beaver built a 28-8 halftime advantage and cruised to a 53-34 victory over Shenango in the Penn State-Beaver Christmas Tournament.
Jenna Petrucci netted 14 points for the Lady Wildcats (1-8). Skylar Andrews added eight markers and four rebounds.
“We’re pretty beat up right now and some kids that normally wouldn’t see varsity time got some time in this tournament,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “We’re just making too many mistakes right now and we’re not able to capitalize when the other team makes mistakes.”
Katie Dennis led all scorers with 29 points and a game-best 12 rebounds for the Lady Rams (3-6). She netted 20 of her points in the first half.
Dennis missed 10 of her 11 free-throw attempts.
South Side Beaver avenged a 41-34 loss to Shenango. Dennis posted just four points in the previous encounter.
“Dennis looked like a totally different person this time,” Turk said. “She did a really good job of driving to the hole off the dribble.
“I thought we did a much better job in the second half stopping her.”
The Lady Rams were 24 of 45 from the floor and the Lady Wildcats were 10 of 53. Shenango took eighth place in the eight-team tournament.
“We have to get better at shooting the ball,” Turk said.
Dennis was an all-tournament selection. No Shenango players were tabbed.
