Wilmington girls whip Moniteau
Wilmington (38) Vs. Moniteau (34)
Dec 30, 2011
Wilmington’s Sarah Slonaker only finished with seven points, but she made them count.

Slonaker led a fourth-quarter comeback by scoring five points in the final few minutes of the game, including a vital three-point play in which she hit a layup and was fouled. She made the free throw to give the Lady Greyhounds (5-4) their first lead of the game with a minute to play.

“She had some (buckets) that came at key and crucial times, and it was because she was crashing the boards and staying active,” Wilmington coach Brandy Sanford said.

Slonaker had help as well. Alanna Elliott netted a game-high 23 points, and freshman reserve guard Jamie Thompson made five steals — all in the final quarter — to help spark the late rally.

“It was definitely a team effort,” Sanford said.

The Lady Greyhounds trailed by as many as nine and were behind 32-25 entering the fourth, but they held Moniteau to just two points while scoring 13 of their own to steal the win.
