Shenago jumps out early, cruises past Mercer
Shenango (74) Vs. Mercer (51)
Dec 24, 2011
Shenango raced to an early lead and cruised to a 74-51 nonsection road win over Mercer last night.
The Wildcats (6-1), winners of six straight, held a 25-13 cushion after one quarter and a 39-22 buffer at the break.
“It’s tough to get up for this one because we haven’t played these guys before,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “The kids are thinking about Christmas and we don’t know anything about Mercer.
“But the kids had to motivate themselves and we got off to a quick start. That’s what we wanted to do and we continued to build on that. It’s nice to get that road win.”
Brett Chieze paced a balanced Wildcats attack with 20 points and Jordan O’Hara was next with 15. Jeff Williams tossed in 14 markers and Mike Linz added 10.
Shenango has won each of its last six games by at least 11 points.
Nate Guiler recorded a game-high 21 points for the Mustangs.
