Youth and inexperience hit Shenango hard in loss to Mars.

The Lady Wildcats (1-5) committed 36 turnovers and suffered another injury. Shenango, a Class AA team, got behind Mars, a Class AAA school, 14-6 in the first quarter and the hosts couldn’t recover.

“We’re pretty injury prone right now, and we lost another girl (Amanda Herb) tonight in the third period, so we’re playing a lot of JV players who are in the ninth grade,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “They stayed at us and pressed us for three quarters, and our younger players didn’t handle the pressure real well.”

Jenna Petrucci scored a team-high 12 points and snatched eight rebounds. Ali Goetz of Mars (1-5) netted 13, including 11 in the first half. Alyssa Mathews led all scorers with 15.
