Union (69) Vs. Wilmington (38)
Dec 21, 2011
Just about everything went right for the Scotties in a nonconference matchup with Wilmington.
Five players scored in double figures for Union (3-3), which made 27 of 49 field goals (55 percent). Benjamin Young helped a first-quarter surge by scoring 10 of his game-high 15 points in the period. Toryan Respress also added eight of his 10, and Tre Major netted eight of his 13 in the stanza. The Scotties also held Wilmington (2-3) to just 10 first-half points.
“We’ve been talking more about containment on defense, and they did a real nice job of it tonight,” Union coach Dave Smialowski said. “We limited their penetration and kept them to one shot, and we had some nice looks. We made the extra pass and moved the ball well, and things were just really clicking for us tonight.”
Major paced the Scotties with 12 rebounds, while Joe Salmen chipped in 12 points and seven assists. Markel Peace contributed 10 points. Rocco Fagan led the Greyhounds with eight points.
