Union tops Quigley Catholic
Union (55) Vs. Quigley (45)
Dec 15, 2011
Union coach Dave Smialowski was waiting for the change all game.
He knew if his Scotties could get a lead against Quigley Catholic, the Spartans would have to come out of their zone defense. That happened in the fourth quarter, and Union (2-2) took advantage, using a late run to pull away from Quigley Catholic (2-2).
“It was back and forth most of the way, and we got a little bit of a lead in fourth, and I told the kids that if we did they’d start chasing us, and when they did, we got some easy baskets,” Smialowski said. “They were taking some chances, and we were hitting the open guy and getting some easy ones.”
Benjamin Young led the Scotties with 15 points, while Toryan Respress provided 11. Joe Salmen added 10 for Union, which outscored the Spartans 22-12 in the fourth quarter.
