Sharpsville takes down Laurel
Sharpsville (74) Vs. Laurel (56)
Dec 14, 2011
A rough start was too much for Laurel to overcome in a nonsection matchup with Sharpsville.
The Spartans (0-3) were outscored, 21-8, in the first quarter and couldn’t recover.
“The first quarter was the difference,” Laurel coach Mike Tinstman said. “We just made mistakes handling the ball, and we didn’t shoot very well. We got down by 12, and we had a few runs, but they really had control of the game.”
Todd Fennick paced Laurel (0-3) with 14 points. The Spartans also committed 23 turnovers, and after cutting the lead to 12, were outscored, 17-8 in the third. Laurel had 36 rebounds, including 13 by Conor Melichar, while Sharpsville had 25.
Kevin Yarabenic recorded a team-high 21 points for the Blue Devils, who are coached by former Neshannock mentor Jim Smiley.
