Lady Lancers lose at buzzer
Slippery Rock (56) Vs. Neshannock (54)
Dec 14, 2011
The Lady Lancers missed a one-and-one with seven seconds left and Slippery Rock’s Morgan Sirbka went coast-to-coast for a layup as the buzzer sounded.
“We had an 11-point lead with 4 minutes left and just couldn’t hold on to it,” Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said. “We played hard, but we made crucial mistakes at crucial times — a box out here, a missed free throw there. Even on the winning layup, we had two people back and she (Sirbka) still went right past us.”
The Lady Lancers (0-3) made 19 of 38 shots (50 percent), but committed 37 turnovers in the nonsection loss.
“Three games, three losses, 40 turnovers, 45 turnovers, 37 turnovers,” Grybowski said. “They were really pressuring us and we weren’t handling it. But we’re young and hopefully it will come.”
Alexandra Fischer led Neshannock with 16 points, while Marissa DeMatteo added 11 points and five assists. Erin Warvell had six rebounds and Tayler Grybowski, the coach’s daughter, and Katie Burrelli had five each.
Sirbka paced the Lady Rockets with 19 points.
