Wilmington falls to Girard
Wilmington (37) Vs. Girard (45)
Dec 10, 2011
Ryan Sager scored 14 points in Wilmington’s 45-37 opening loss to Girard in the Jamestown Tipoff Tournament.
Jordan Smith and Matt Bowen had six rebounds each, while Smith added four steals and Sager and Bowen had three steals apiece.
“Josh Tekac is out with a foot injury, so we had a sophomore center in there (the 6-foot-1 Smith) who really did a nice job,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “Ryan Sager really stepped up, too, he had 11 points in the first half alone.”
Girard went on a 9-0 run to start the game, but Wilmington battled back and went ahead 22-21 at the half. The Greyhounds went cold from the field in the third quarter, however, going five minutes without scoring, and Girard put the game out of reach by making 7 of 10 free throws in the final frame.
Wilmington plays Jamestown at 6 p.m. today in the consolation game.
