Union (66) Vs. Western Beaver (56)
Feb 12, 2011
Union’s seniors might not have had the season they hoped for, but they ended it on a bright note by knocking off Western Beaver 66-56 in a Section 2-AA contest.
Senior Andre Jones recorded team highs in points (17) and rebounds (11). He scored 13 in the first half, when the Scotties (1-9, 2-19) took a 32-21 lead. He was one of three players to score at least 13 points.
“That was the big difference tonight,” Union coach Dave Smialowski said. “We moved the ball well, took some high-percentage shots and we knocked them down.
“It was a good effort by the kids. I was happy for them, especially the seniors. They played hard all year. It may not have showed in our record, but they worked their butts off in practice. So it was nice to see them go out with a win.”
Markel Peace scored 11 of his 15 in the final two quarters and also grabbed 10 boards.
Jacob St. George and Eric Blinn paced Western Beaver (1-9, 4-14) with 15 points each.
