Wilmington (56) Vs. Reynolds (37)
Feb 09, 2011
It all came together for Wilmington in a District 10, Region 2-AA victory over Reynolds.
The Greyhounds (3-4, 7-11) struggled mightily in the first quarter, trailing 13-3 after one period. Yet, they outscored the Raiders by nearly 30 points (53-24) the next three quarters thanks to one of the best all-around games of the season.
The final three quarters were something Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch has been waiting for all season.
“We finally played together as a team,” Jeckavitch said. “We really kind of just quit complaining and started playing. It was a big win for us. The kids were real excited. This is how I thought we could play all year long. We really didn’t put it together until today.”
Curtis Bretz led the Greyhounds with 17 points, while Anthony Derrick provided 12 points, eight assists and seven steals. Matt Bowen chipped in 10 points, and Darryl Pace scored six and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
Wilmington led 30-28 entering the fourth, but went on a 26-9 run to close out the game.
Brandon Weaver paced Reynolds (4-3, 9-9) with 17 points.
