Feb 03, 2011
Riverside breezed to a 26-9 halftime advantage and cruised to a Section 2-AA win over Shenango.
The Wildcats were just 15 of 51 from the floor for the game.
“We came out and looked sluggish,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “Riverside obviously gets after it on defense; you can’t take anything away from them.
“We couldn’t make a shot in the first half. (Shooting) 15 of 51 says it all right there.”
Brett Chieze netted 11 points for the Wildcats, while Jordan O’Hara, Jeff Williams and Tynen Greer contributed eight apiece.
Shenango got as close as 11 in the second half before the Panthers (6-3, 11-8) pulled away. Riverside was 19 of 22 from the foul line for the game, including 13 of 16 in the fourth quarter.
“My hat’s off to my kids,” McQuiston said “They could have hung it up at halftime. But they battled back and played hard.
“When you dig a hole that deep, it’s tough to come out of.”
Zac Rorick led all scorers with 27 points for Riverside.
