Jan 16, 2017
The Lady Lancers grabbed control in the second and third quarters en route to a 61-38 Section 1-3A road victory over the Lady Spartans.

"I wouldn't say we played well," Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said. "It was kind of ugly, but we got the win.

"We didn't execute very well. Defensively, it was probably one of our poorest outings of the year. Sometimes you play ugly and win. Tonight was one of those nights."

Grybowski improved her career mark to 599-283 in 37 seasons on the bench. She will go for career win No. 600 on Thursday at section foe Beaver Falls.

Neshannock (6-0, 14-1) led just 10-9 after one quarter. However, the Lady Lancers pushed the lead to 30-18 at the half and 47-28 going to the final frame.

"We played them hard and we never gave up," said first-year Laurel coach Matt Stebbins.

Aidan Noga posted a game-high 21 points for Neshannock and Bella Burrelli followed with 16. Carmie Matarazzo tossed in 10 tallies for the victors.

Haswell added nine rebounds and three assists for the winners, while Burrelli pulled down five boards with four steals. Matarazzo added five rebounds and three assists. Noga handed out three assists.

The Lady Lancers were 26 of 52 from the field.

"The shooting was a plus," Grybowski said. "It was one of our better shooting nights. I thought we did a decent job; it wasn't crisp execution, but we finished when we had to."

Shelby Miles netted a team-high 13 points for the Lady Spartans (2-4, 7-8). Miles added 13 rebounds and seven steals as well. Janna Conrad contributed 10 boards to go with her three markers.
