Former Ellwood star Aloi returns to court tonight
Jan 23, 2015
Nick Aloi is ready to return to basketball in Lawrence County.

He won’t, however, be playing for a local team.

Aloi, a former Ellwood City Lincoln High star, will suit up for the first time in over a year and a half when his new team, Lincoln Park, travels to Mohawk at 7:30 tonight.

Aloi, now a junior, has missed the last 19 months, dating back to May 2013, between a torn left anterior cruciate ligament suffered during the AAU season and WPIAL and PIAA rulings that kept him sidelined this season.

The WPIAL and PIAA went back and forth on Aloi’s eligibility as Ellwood kept the pressure on, finally ruling that he had at least in part transferred to Lincoln Park for athletic intent. The ruling kept Aloi out of action from the day he announced his transfer on Jan. 21, 2014.

“He’s been practicing with us, he’s a warrior,” Lincoln Park coach Mike Bariski said. “He’s going to battle, won’t back down. When we go, he makes our guys work because he’s on the scout team, just battling. He’ll come into the rotation and play.

“I think him not playing was wrong, I think everything that Ellwood City did was wrong, but that’s another conversation. But it helped him get his knee stronger and he’s ready to go. He’s biting at the bit.”

Aloi averaged 17.3 points in his freshman campaign in 2012-2013 with the Wolverines.
