Mohawk rallies to top Shenango
Mohawk (43) Vs. Shenango (33)
The Mohawk High girls basketball team put it together in the fourth quarter last night.
The Lady Warriors erased a two-point deficit en route to a 43-33 victory over Shenango in a WPIAL Section 2-AA contest. Mohawk outscored the Lady Wildcats 17-5 in the final frame.
“For the first three quarters I felt we didn’t dribble well, pass well or shoot well,” Lady Warriors coach Mike O’Lare said. “We have a veteran group of kids that I never lost any faith in.
“We were able to put together a big quarter to get it done; any section win on the road is a good win.”
The Lady Warriors (3-2 section, 9-4 overall) began their rally around the six-minute mark. The loss was the seventh straight for the Lady Wildcats (0-5, 4-10).
“It was a game there until the fourth quarter,” Shenango coach Chris Vecenie said.” They went on a run and we didn’t match it.
“We played hard and we’re getting better every game. We’re building toward the right direction.”
Amanda Shaffer netted a game-high 16 points for Mohawk and Kelly Eichenlaub was next with 10.
Angelene Rapone contributed 15 markers for Shenango.
“Alexia Flynn had a really strong night defensively,” Vecenie said. “She held Chelsea Brown to three points and did a great all-around job defensively.”
