Wilmington finds way to get past Lakeview
Wilmington (42) Vs. Lakeview (28)
The Wilmington High girls basketball team found a way to get it done Monday night.
With two starters missing for personal reasons, the Lady Greyhounds still found a way to beat visiting Lakeview 42-28 in District 10, Region 2-2A action.
Two Wilmington underclassmen who had not previously started were pressed into duty and both stepped up. Lady Greyhounds coach Rick Holzworth tapped sophomore Aleah Deal and freshman Sara Ruth to start. Deal responded with four points and Ruth added four points and 11 rebounds.
Seniors Lauren Frederick and Reilly Hunt led Wilmington (3-1 region, 6-6 overall) in scoring with 20 and 10 points, respectively. Frederick also had four steals.
"I told our two seniors before the game, you guys have to score and play defense and they really stepped up," Holzworth said. "We played two seniors and all the rest were underclassmen. Aleah and Sara were tremendous. Sara is a guard (5-foot-5) and came up with 11 rebounds. I would say she definitely earned herself some future playing time."
The Lady Sailors dipped to 1-3 and 5-5.
