Neshannock routs New Brighton
Neshannock (65) Vs. New Brighton (13)
The Neshannock High girls basketball team let New Brighton stick around.

For the first four minutes, at least.

It was all Lady Lancers after that in a 65-13 Section 1-AA win.

The Lady Lions were only down a couple of possessions in the first few minutes, but Neshannock (8-2 section, 15-3 overall) opened the floodgates and finished the first quarter with a 19-8 lead.

The Lady Lancers would only allow last-place New Brighton (0-10, 1-16) to score five points the rest of the way, finishing off the outmatched opponent quickly.

“We shot the ball really well tonight,” Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said. “They played some man and zone, but we shot the ball really well. Everyone played a lot of minutes, which is good.”

Neshannock spread the wealth on the stat sheet with four players eclipsing the double-digit mark.

Madison McHale led the way with a game-high 15 points. Erin Warvell and Tayler Grybowski tallied 11 points each and Regan Moorhouse added 10 points and seven rebounds.

“The percentages were better, but I’d like to see three kids in double figures every game because you’re that much harder to defend,” Luann Grybowski said. “We have to get to that situation. We did in some games but I would like to see it in a majority of games.

The shot selection was also spread amongst the Lady Lancers. McHale took just 11 shots, Warvell put up 10, Moorhouse shot nine and Grybowski took seven.

“It was good,” Luann Grybowski said. “The beauty of it is, a lot of people got a lot of shots. Sometimes we get into the game and, naturally, Madison is our top scorer. But she’ll get 25 shots and we don’t have anyone else with 10.

“That makes it more difficult in tighter games when opponents face guard her. It is what it is, I tell the kids that they have to make the most of their opportunities. We had some people score more with less shooting.”
