Union comes up short against Summit Academy
Union (57) Vs. Summit Academy (62)
The Union High boys basketball team came up a bit a short last night.

The Scotties trailed by 14 at the half and tied the contest in the fourth, before falling 62-57 at home to Summit Academy in nonsection action.

Union trailed 36-22 at the break. The Scotties knotted the count with under a minute to play.

The Knights fouled, sending the Scotties to the line. But the hosts missed the front-end of a one-and-one. Summit Academy snared the rebound, launched an outlet pass that was cashed in for a layup and the visitors closed it out for the win.

“We had our opportunities,” Union coach Mark Stanley said. “We played with very low energy in the first half.

“We played with much better energy in the second half. We have to get better.”

Garrison Bell paced all scorers with 24 points for Union. He scored 19 of his points in the second half, including 11 of his tallies in the final frame. Bell also notched five steals.

“Garrison put us on his back for a while,” Stanley said. “He put us within reach in the third quarter; he really stepped it up.”

Anthony Rush registered 11 markers for the Scotties.

Cornell Charles, Union’s leading scorer at 11.3 points a game, missed the matchup with the flu.

Jullian Johnson snared a team-high nine rebounds to go with his four points. Dominick Dudo, who netted a pair of points, was next with eight boards.

Anthony Rentas and Perrell Turner tallied 17 points apiece to lead the Knights.
