Mohawk girls top Lady ’Canes

The New Castle High girls basketball team hung tough.
But a rough third quarter spelled doom for the host Lady ’Canes last night.
New Castle trailed by just two points at the half before Mohawk took command for a 37-32 nonsection win.
The Lady ’Canes (0-3) were down 18-16 at the break. The Lady Warriors (2-1) outscored New Castle 10-2 in the pivotal third frame.
Erin Giancola paced the Lady Warriors with 10 points, while Carlee Stelter and Ashley McConnell contributed eight points apiece. Samantha Carr collected six markers for the victors.
Carmie Matarazzo tallied a game-high 13 points for New Castle and Jaidyn Eggleston chipped in with 11.
