Mohawk gets big road win at Beaver Falls
Mohawk (56) Vs. Beaver Falls (48)
Mohawk High was on the road, but Shelby Brown made herself at home at the foul line.

Brown sank 16 of 20 free throws — including 8 of 9 in the fourth quarter — to help the Lady Warriors post a 56-48 WPIAL Section 2-AA win at Beaver Falls.

“This senior class had never won down there,” coach Mike O’Lare noted. “We’ve beaten them up here, but never down there. That’s important, winning on the road, especially in section play.”

Brown keyed Mohawk (2-0 in the section, 4-1 overall) with 27 points, followed by Paige Ruby with 16.

“Shelby played very well,” O’Lare said. “In the fourth quarter, when she’s shooting free throws, I always consider that an automatic two points. She’s an excellent free throw shooter.

“And Paige, she had 10 rebounds, she was a force for us inside, getting rebounds and loose balls and turning them into scores. I think every bucket she had tonight came at a big moment.”

Beaver Falls (1-1, 2-3) got a 24-point performance from Ayanna Vaughn.
