Mohawk girls defeat Union
Mohawk (49) Vs. Union (37)
The Mohawk High girls basketball team got a much-needed win last night.
The Lady Warriors built a 10-point lead in the first quarter and made it stand in a 49-37 victory over Union in a nonsection encounter.
“We played three games in four days, so we’re just trying to get a win,” Mohawk coach Mike O’Lare said.
Alyssa Natale paced the Lady Warriors (6-10) with 15 points, while Teresa Westover and Chelsea Brown chipped in with 12 each.
“Alyssa’s playing well,” O’Lare said. “She’s playing like a sophomore, so you never know what you’re going to get but she’s been playing very well the past few games.
“Some of our players are really stepping up. Teresa Westover, Chelsea Brown and Alyssa Natale all put forth a great effort.”
Noelle Hannon registered 13 points for the Lady Scots (3-10) and Ashley Sankey was next with 10.
Mohawk led 14-4 after the first frame and 24-12 at the break.
“It was a hard fought game between neighborhood rivals,” Union coach Gary Trimble said. “I’m proud of how we played; we got off to a bad start.
“Give Mohawk credit, they played well. It was just one of those games.”
The Lady Scots battled back to trail 34-26 after three quarters.
“It was still a good game in the last quarter,” Trimble said. “It was a good exhibition game.”
