Win No. 1 never is easy in WPIAL Section 2-AA.

That’s why Mohawk’s 57-43 victory over Laurel last night was so important to Warriors coach Rob Fadden.

“It’s always nice to get one early,” Fadden said. “They can be hard to come by in this section.”

Mohawk (1-0 section, 3-2 overall) used a balanced scoring attack to claim that first victory. Lucas Grim (18), Tim Glass (14) and Jonathan Grim (12) helped Mohawk pull away in the second half, when it outscored the Spartans, 33-21.

The Warriors led by just two at the break, mainly because Laurel (0-2, 0-5) sank six 3s, including two by leading-scorer Josh Dando (12). He was the only Spartans player to reach double figures.
