Shenango shakes fatigue to top Wilmington
Shenango (59) Vs. Wilmington (43)
Fatigue wasn’t an issue for the Shenango High boys basketball team on Saturday.

The Wildcats took command in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 59-43 nonsection win over Wilmington.

It was the second game in as many days for Shenango (4-1).

“Every game is important,” Wildcats coach Bob McQuiston said. “We had a good one Friday against Laurel and we wanted to continue it.

“You’re always worried about tired legs on back-to-back nights. But we played a great fourth quarter.”

The Wildcats breezed to a 57-22 victory over the Spartans on Friday.

Brett Chieze recorded a game-high 20 points for Shenango, nine coming in the first quarter. He handed out eight assists as well.

“Brett’s doing a great job of finding the guy that’s hot each night,” McQuiston said.

Jordan O’Hara was next for the Wildcats with 16 points and Mike Linz contributed 10.

Shenango was 19 of 41 from the floor.

Matt Bowen tossed in a team-high 12 points for the Greyhounds (2-2). Bowen shared team-high honors in rebounding with Ryan Sager, each with five. Sager handed out five assists to go along with his seven markers.

Rocco Fagan chipped in with nine points.

“I thought we battled well for three quarters,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “In the fourth quarter, we gave them a couple of opportunities to score and they took advantage.

“Chieze had a great game for them.”
