Balanced Lady Lancers lock down Laurel
Neshannock (54) Vs. Laurel (28)
The Neshannock High girls basketball team built some much-needed momentum last night going into the playoffs.
Four players scored in double figures for the Lady Lancers in a 54-28 WPIAL Section 2-AA victory over Laurel in the regular season finale for both schools.
Chelsea Kauffman netted a team-high 14 points, with six steals and six assists for Neshannock (8-4, 15-7). Ericka Warvell and Ashlee Patton tossed in 12 markers apiece. Warvell registered 10 rebounds and four steals, while Patton notched four steals.
Marianne Piatek chipped in with 10 points for the winners.
“That’s exactly what we need to do,” Lady Lancers coach Luann Grybowski said of her team’s balance. “It’s nice to have four scorers reach double figures because that takes a lot of pressure off people.”
The Lady Lancers were 22 of 45 from the field.
Becca Kerr led all scorers with 15 points for the Lady Spartans, who finished the season at 4-8, 6-16.
Neshannock forced 25 turnovers by Laurel. The Lady Lancers turned it over 16 times.
“We were very active in the passing lanes,” Grybowski said. “We ran some halfcourt traps and the kids did very well.”
