Wilmington girls defeat Reynolds
Wilmington (53) Vs. Reynolds (39)
The Wilmington High girls basketball team came out strong in the second half last night.
The Lady Greyhounds outscored Reynolds by 12 in the final half to pull away for a 53-39 District 10, Region 2-AA victory, snapping a three-game losing streak.
“We were able to push the ball a little more in the second half,” Wilmington coach Brandy Sanford said. “The girls played excellent defense and forced some turnovers; we made them take some shots they didn’t want to take in the second half.”
Haley Marett tossed in a team-high 15 points, while adding five steals for the Lady Greyhounds (3-2 region, 6-5 overall).
“Haley kept driving to the hole strong,” Sanford said. “Reynolds was having some trouble with fouls and she was getting some great picks up top.”
Julie Burns snared 10 rebounds for the winners and Grace Gealy was next with six. Mackenzie Hiers handed out seven assists.
“This is a really big win for us,” Sanford said. “We’ve been down a lot lately and mentally it was huge.”
Jill Siege netted a game-best 18 markers for the Lady Raiders (2-3, 3-6).
