The Neshannock High girls basketball team is making progress under first-year coach Luann Grybowski.

The Lady Lancers earned a second straight victory last night with a 53-35 WPIAL Section 2-AA decision over Shenango.

“We’re getting better with each one,” Grybowski said.

Ericka Warvell and Chelsea Kauffman led the way for Neshannock (1-3 section, 5-5 overall). Warvell registered a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Kauffman added 20 markers and five assists.

“That’s about where both of them should be,” Grybowski said. “They’re getting the majority of the shots.”

Lady Wildcats coach Chris Vecenie said his team was outplayed last night. The Lady Lancers fired 20 more shots than Shenango (0-3, 7-4) and forced 18 turnovers.

“We have to focus on executing,” Vecenie said. “If we can do that then we’ll come together.”

The Lady Lancers only led by four at halftime but a 17-7 run in the third quarter propelled them to victory.

“We came out in the third quarter and jumped on them,” Grybowski said.

Angelene Rapone led Shenango with 14 points and Miranda Black chipped with 12.
